Substance Abuse Concerns Increase During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Some people struggling with mental illness are at a higher risk for substance use and abuse due to the uncertainty of psychosocial factors, financial stressors, social isolation, and anxiety surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic.

These factors can cause individuals to be more vulnerable to addiction and to relapse. Relapse can be identified as part of the recovery process, but also place further barriers due to allowing psychological dependence as an unhealthy coping skill. Substance abuse enables individuals to cope in unhealthy ways in place of addressing underlying issues. Individuals use substances to mask pain and emotion in place of facing the obstacles related to recovery.

At Brightland Health, we can support your recovery. Certified drug and alcohol counselors can help you address the current barriers you are experiencing with a transition to a healthy life filled with purpose and stability.
